If any other gods are gonna get it please let me know.
Need for speed. Yea I bought it on Friday from WHSmith. They are doing a deal, two chart games for 60quid, so I bought it and Tony Hawks Underground.
I was talking to NEMISIS and he said he had a played a demo, and that I had looked really good… so I said ‘yea ill get it so that I can give him a race’, also he should be online with his gods name so you might meet him. I’m online as ‘GODSLOKI’ as they wont let you use “<>’s
I will give a brief review of Need for Speed as I see it.
In a sentence (ONLY FOR THR RACING GAME MAD)
The !player game is perfectly fine, it has the basic career mode stuff, you buy a crap care, you race, you win credit you enter another race, you kit out your car in upgrades, practical and aesthetic.
The game play itself Is more arcade rather than realistic… it feels more like a ridge-racer type game rather than a GT. So if feels a bitter empty to those of us that are GT fans…you don’t have to use the break much, or very intelligently, the real key to winning is missing awkward pieces of scenery. And tree will stop you flat in your path… no damage, no impressive crash. Just reverse and bit and start climbing through your gears again.
ONLINE.
I have to admit that I find this rather sub standard.
The online races are seem deeply in-personal, there are no comms (WHY?) and you cant use a USB keyboard to chat in the lobby or in the game (WHY WHY WHY??????) so you barely talk to anyone, it feels like an alienating experience. At most you can only have a 4 car race. There seems to be a real lack of community in this game simply because it so hard to chat to people… after a race you want to be like “ that was I nice little move you pulled at the end there m8 but you cant, because your booted back to a mass lobby.
However there is some good leader board stuff, and ranking systems that award points, and at the end of the week they are all ‘re-set’ and your given points for the records you have achieved at the end of ‘said’ week.
There doesn't seem to be enough tracks, only about 5 online, and 5 again if you count them backwards. They are all at night and all in the same city.
The other online competitors don’t seem to move in a particularly realistic fashion… they sort of move with a slower frame rate than the scenery, and just… well they don’t move like a convincing car.
It is the PS2’s first online racer so I willing to give it a bit more of a chance. But if you got 40 notes and you have to chose between this and Tony Hawk’s Underground I would say go for the latter.
