View Full Version : Whats your favourite movie?
I was thinking. What’s your to 5 favourite movies ever… yep it’s one of those (getting to know you) threads.
Mine (at the moment)
1 Rushmore (1999) Bill Murray comedy that just kills me.
2. Full Metal Jacket. Like SOCOM, but without thermal vision.
3. Goodfellas. And to a lesser extent ‘Casino’
4. Empire Strikes Back. … those new star wars films can fuck off… 1 word: METACLORIANS?????!!!!!
5. Kung Pow. I laughed so much it hurt. If you haven’t seen it… I promise you…you got to check it out
three of your choices are great,
Full metal Jacket - awesome
Goodfellas - Class
Kung pow - The kung fu COW made me piss my self laughing, i missed some of the beginning but was well fuking funny.

City of God
The Usual Suspects
Live From Baghdad
Memento
with a special mention to Fear and Loating in Las Vegas
i havent seen 'Live for Bagdad' is it any good???
but Memento was one of the best films of the last couple of years.... really a truly great film. that is another one of those must see films... really a nice piece of writing... because it has guy pearce in and quite a low budget, i almost feels like the greatest TV-movie ever made. it's all in the script... really really very great. a film that you watch and them want to watch the next day.... because prior knowledge compleatly changes it. i dont want to say to much because it is a film that is really hard to talk about without giving spoilers.
I'm glad that you also mentioned Fear and Loathing.... as you may...or may not know... my online tage (before joing the GODS) was Raoul Duke the lead character of F and L.... one of my favoret books long before it became such a fantastic film.
"Why....Is this not a reasonable place to park?" LMFAO

Live From Baghdad you might or might not like...
Its about the first gulf war, I guess you could say its a more intelligent Three Kings..specifically its about CNN's involvement (the US news network). Its more about the build up to the war, it kinda gives everything a similar documentary feel to City of God, mixing in actual interviews and footage without it being obvious. Overall it gives you the feeling that you're there experiencing what happened.
What makes it is when the war kicks off...it focuses on the damage and confusion more than anything; its reminiscant of the first few scenes of Saving Private Ryan (which gives a good account of the beach landings), but on a more personal level.
If you've seen City of God you'll know what I mean...some parts will be fictionalised, sure, but the whole thing is shot so convincingly you'll leave convinced its fact.
Theres so many great films though that you forget about..I recently bought A Fistful of Dollars on DVD and watching that last night reminds me not only of how good that particular film was, but also Unforgiven, the 90's western with Morgan Freeman :)
Oh don’t get me wrong…. There are so many films that I love. But the list that I gave above is kind of more indicative of the more mainstream films that I love, I’m a real movie nut so I could of got a bit obscure but I just wanted to get the ball rolling.
I glad that you’re a fan of the western… as far I am concerned to be fan of the cinema is to be a fan of the western… and it’s a shame that people do not take them as seriously as they should.
Yea… I love the clint eastwood stuff… I may have to be obvious and say that Good the Bad and the Ugly is my top western. But I also love The High Plains Drifter… Eastwoods surreal western where the character will not help the town until they paint it red and rename it ‘hell’ (it’s better than it sounds). As well as Pale Rider.
Unforgiven was a fantastic swan-song for Eastwoods ‘man with no-name’ character… the Hackman character that convinces himself that he is good simply because he is building a house. (brilliant).
But don’t forget Peckinpa’s The Wild Bunch

faves at the mo
lord of the rings 3
terminator 3
matrix 1 2 and 3 , 3 being the best so far.only seen it once in cinema-need to see it again to take it all in.
oh my god anubis what the fuck are you on!
Terminator 3 and Matrix 3 where the shittest endings to 2 great movies before each of them.
Both had great effects and parts in the movies but both story's where utter shite i thought.
my top 5 films at the mo:
1:The Matrix
2:Dogma
3:Fight Club
4:The Usual Suspects
5:The Bourne Identity
yea....i have to admit that i enyoyed terminator 3...but more as a comedy... I laughed at the 'give me your clothes ' scene and never really stoped laughing.
i have not yet seen Matrix 3... i thought the first one was alright... bit dumb...but a laugh, the 2nd one was practially insane. good FX.... but then what film dosent have good FX these days?
I dont like Keanu Reeves.... he is so dumb that i find it hard to belive that he could be a quasi-mehsia, lets face it...when he reads you can see his lips move.
popcorn films... i watched them, enjoyed them. and then just moved on.

The whole plot of Terminator 3 revolves around this idea that history cannot be changed, only postponed at best. So with this in mind the result of the war is always going to be the same.
Even worse is the gaping hole this creates in the plot of all three films. Since the terminator itself (arnie) states that history cannot be changed, why do the machines even send terminators back in the first place?
Like Loki said, it was enjoyable, but nothing more.
that is one of the ilogical problems at the heart of the film. it happens in Matrix also... the humans block out the sun.... so the aliens cant get energy.... yet they harvest humans.... and feed humans back to them.. a total mess of the 1st law of thermodynamics.
there suedo philosophy about being and reality is deeply dubious also.
but who cares... look at that cool bullet time ;)
In the Terminator... the philosophical position on whether the the future or future history can be changed is neither hear no there.
time travell is not and will nevr be posible in any workable framework... if the future can be changed (as terminator 2 sugests over terminator 1) then it stands that events can be changed back...put off, bought forward or whatever. i guess when in the hands of hack producers the future of a film franchicse.... anything is posible.... these questions are about films always make me laugh.... it remindes me of the star trek writer that was asked how the warp drive works and he replied 'wery well thankyou'
i guess there is a reason why they call movies 'hyper reality'

Well my 5 favourite films I would say are:
In no particular order:
1. Independence Day - Quality Film
2. Star Wars Episode II - I don't like the old star wars but the new ones are good.
3. American Pie 2 - Makes me laugh everytime I watch it, And I've watched it a good 20 or so times now.
4. Shawshank Redemption - not one of those films you watch over and over again, but one of the deepest and best storylines of all time.
5. Black Hawk Down - When I first saw this I ended up watching it about 3 times in 2 days, absolute quality.
Special Mentions
6. Saving Private Ryan - A very good film and probably only edged out of top 5 by Black Hawk Down.
7. Lord of the Rings - All 3 films were very well made, I would have prefered it being spread out into 4 or 5 shorter films tho.
8. Dave - Most of you won't have seen this but it was a film about the persident dying and a Double brought in in his place, very funny film and a film I watch every so often when I fancy a laugh. I think it was Kevin Klein (might have got the name wrong  ) who stared in it.
I reserve the right to make changes to this list :P It changed about 3 or 4 times while I was typing it  :P

I thoguht T3 was a great film but there is one big problem with both the sequels to the first film!
I the first film it is explained that skynet was nearly beaten and as a result it made a machine to send a terminator back in time, which it did just before the humans had broke in to the skynet building and then used the same machine for themselves and they were only able to send one person due to the limitations of the time travel machine. then we killed skynet and destoryed all the machines.
Then some how after skynet had been destoryed it was able to create an advanced terminator the T1000 and send this back in time, so we then were able to reprogram a normal terminator and send that back as well, even though we couldn't in the first one.
Then for the third film skynet had had time to make an even more advanced terminator and some how send that one back as well and then we sent the terminator that had just killed jon connor back!
How did skynet have time to do all this if it was it's last ditch attempt to save itself in the first film!!!
I do think however that all three were very good film in there own rights and would look forward to them making number 4.
Films should really keep away from time travel because it just doesn't make sense!!
I would put my top five films down but i have to many favourites to choose from!
(sorry for the long pointless message)
oh man Zilla . . .'Dave', that has to be the most .... well i just never thought that i would here some call that one of their favoret films. . .
i have somany films like that. i love those films that you have seen but everyone seems to have not. . . . . (everybodys got em... everybody looks at you funny when you talk about them.)
Let it Ride. (Richard dreyfus has a very good day on the horses)
Danger Diabolic. (the worlds greatest cat burgler)
Mad monster Party (its all in the title)
lady Snowblood. & Shogun Assassin

They Throw Cream pies at the Zombies............
it is truly gra8 and they r making a new version of it thats how good it is!
i was hoping for a 4th film series. I remember George A Romero talking about and Eve of the dead where the super rich live in the top 10 or so stories of the tallest building in Manhatten... and its one of the last outposts of humanitys aginst the 'dead' that cover the earth.... i would rather see that made than a simple remake of 'dawn'.
Yea the cream pies were a little sureal.... but almost needed.... you feel yourse going mad stuck in the damn mall.

Let me know what u think ;-)
The movies listed above are not my favorate movies, but they are movies that I would recommend you watch.
Identity.... man i guessed the ending as soon as they said they had the same birthday. the script should have been a little better crafted. . . i had no suprises if you pay attention. a nice attempt though with an admirable concept.
and if remaking texas chainsaw masacre isent the most comercial enterprise ever. i cant think of any reason to remake it (other than the money it will pull in) it really buged me i heard they were doing that. . . the 70s original was so perfect. . . such a shatering movie that breaks apart narative conventions. . . . or just splits open narative with an assault of running and screaming...running and screaming & blood and horror. . . there is no story. i'm sure that they will try to impose some hackneyed plot and dilute this classic assault. you got to check out the 70's classic Cyko.
hey Van Wilder was good though
