So Zilla, how u come by this special disk furnished with SOCOM 2? I think money is going to have to be spent so I can see this bad boy!!

I thought a while back, how funny would it be if, once u got shot, ur character became wounded. By the end of the game ud just have a group of guys hobbling around the place throwing grenades like girls! lol

Well to get Socom II at the moment, you would need to buy a US PS2, You can pick one up for about £125. You also need a step down power converter which are about £25.

Then of course you will need Socom II. The full US release is down for Nov 4th and if you want it before then you will need to find a US beta tester who is selling their Beta (Quite a few are cashing in now seeing as there's only 1month left till beta ends) If you bought a beta you'd still have to buy the full game when it is released aswell.

I can point you in the right directions for all of the above if you are really interested.

i was considoring having my ps2 chipped so that i could play the US games. but i am yet to find a company onling that make me feel comfortable with the idea of sending to them my console so that they can start soldering little wires on to a PCB.

also... are there any issues, with sticking the brit network adaptor on to the back of a US or chipped PS2???

ok, Chipped PS2's, Socom II will load up fine on a "clever" PS2 and you'll prob be ok playing the single player game, but when you try to log it comes up with a DNAS 833 error which we believe is a Region error, ie its rejecting you PAL PS2, even though the chip has allowed the game to load up.

So the solution is if you want to play the NTSC version of Socom II online you will have to buy a NTSC PS2 which is what I did and it cost me a total of £150 including a stepdown power converter.

Getting your PS2 converted to a "clever" PS2 would cost you about £100 I think, well thats what it cost me, but that was quite a while ago now.

Just to keep you updated, and for somewhere for me to write this down so I dont forget, the current questions are will a US socom 2 boot with the swap magic disks and will DNAS check the region of the PS2?

As I see you've encountered DNAS problems already Zilla, heres the best website I could find with some info on DNAS.

http://www.hostultra.com/~topper/DNASdoc.html

It also has a list of IP ports that need to be open on your firewall, if they are not open these may cause DNAS errors in future games.

From what Ive read this morning, DNAS definatly looks for mod chips (this could have caused your 833 error). It looks for other naughty hardware such as action replay etc and hopefully this will be functional in socom 2. Will DNAS kick up if it finds a legitimate US SOCOM 2 on a non-chipped PAL PS2? Dont know yet lol!!

As far as we know we think it is a region test on the DNAS. I have ripped the disk and were gonna test the swap disk with someone who has this already. Whether it will work I don't know.
